Sidekick Showcase [43] - Mischievous

Sidekick Showcase, previously known as Sidekick Saturday, is a weekly bookish meme, hosted here by Jaclyn at JC's Book Haven. There are many secondary characters that are as great as the primaries. In some cases, the sidekicks actually steal the show and you like them better than the heroine or hero. Maybe they didn't have enough page time for how great they were. Anyone can play along! I will post my Sidekicks on Saturday, then whichever day during the week that you would like to post yours, you can put your link in on my page. Just do the following:

• Choose a sidekick *or someone other than the hero or heroine* that you would like to put in the spotlight that fits in the week's topic
• Share a picture (if you can) and information about the character
• Give the title and author of a book the character can be found in
• Please don't include too many spoilers when describing why the character is such a great sidekick
• The day of your post, put your link in below and grab the code for your post so you can see the others that post their's throughout the week as well

September Themes:
September 7th - Spitfire
September 14th - SIDEKICK OF CHOICE (It's my Birthday!!)
September 21st - Love Interest's BFF
September 28th - Mischievous

*I'll have October's list posted very soon*

This week is Mischievous

Adrian picture created by Jaclyn Canada

My choice is Adrian
Persephone's Orchard by Molly Ringle

Adrian is such a fantastic and multi-faceted character. We meet him first as a young man that is a part of kidnapping Sophie, and later we find out that he's tricked her in another very important way. What's so great about this though is that Ringle draws the reader in with this character so much that none of this is really an issue. It's just one of those "Ah, ha ha ha, that Adrian is such a kidder." Those charming people can get away with that, and Adrian is definitely on the charming side. Said to be of olive skin, with black curly hair and dark eyes, he leaps off the page with a sultry and exotic handsomeness. He keeps this air of mischievousness throughout the story, but he is a sincere and kind-hearted guy.

This is what I said about Adrian in my review, "Adrian is such an endearing character with a touch of mischief. He's lonely and he wants his love. He has had a hard life yet he does what he can for others in the one real way that he can."

Quotes:

“Fine, I'm a stalker, FINE.”

“And he had a dog, a nice dog. He couldn’t be too evil or dangerous if he had such a great dog.”

“You’re going to kidnap me again?”
Adrian tried a smile. “No, I’ll ask you if you *want* to be kidnapped again.”

Harry Potter Moment [10] - J.K. Rowling Writes Movie Script for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

This is a meme hosted by Uncorked Thoughts. The aim of this meme is to share with fellow bloggers a character, spell, chapter, object or quote from the books/ films/ J. K. Rowling herself or anything Potter related! She is picking a topic within HP for us to focus on each week and then if anyone wants to take part feel free! All she asks is to link back to her blog :). There is now a full list of the topics to come here.

This is a free week, so I'd like to discuss the news that's been making rounds the past week:

J.K. Rowling Writes Movie Script for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

So I have to thank Aidan over at Picture Me Reading for finding out this tidbit since I hadn't heard the news yet...Alisa and Aidan are wonderful so I hope you'll give them a visit if you aren't already familiar with their blog.

Rowling has opted to write the screenplay for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them which is set in the same world with the same magic and monsters that we love, but will not be a sequel or prequel. The author of the book, Newt Scamander, will be the focus of the story and it will be set in New York, 70 years before Harry's time.

I don't know about you, but this news makes me so ecstatic! I am overjoyed that we get to experience her imagination and storytelling again in the same universe that has become so familiar but with an entirely new adventure in store for us. Also, it will be very different seeing the wizards in the U.S. this time around so I am definitely looking forward to that.

I also read that Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them would be included in the video gaming and Pottermore endeavors.

What do you think?

Read full scoop from J.K.'s site here
Goodreads Summary:

A copy of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them resides on almost every wizarding household in the country. Now, for a limited period only, Muggles too have the chance to discover where the Quintaped lives, what the Puffskein eats, and why it is best not to leave milk out for a Knarl.
Proceeds from the sale of this book will go to improving and saving the lives of children around the world, which means that the dollars and Galleons you exchange for it will do magic beyond the powers of any wizard. If you feel that this is insufficient reason to part with your money, I can only hope most sincerely that passing wizards feel more charitable if they ever see you being attacked by a Manticore.

Praise:
“I couldn't put it down. So I finished it last night and all I can say is WOW! This book was amazing and different.” Brianna (Book Blogger)

I loved how the author took a different approach to writing a love story in modern times with the paranormal element present. I thought it was absolutely wonderful and refreshing. Marvelous!” Kathy H (Amazon Reviewer)

I will admit I scoffed at the way it started but in the end I had fallen in love with this story…completely untraditional it was a very original idea, not to mention modern. This story had such a good plot and the story structure was sound. Kacii – The Kooky Bookworm (Book Blogger)

About the Author

Mia Hoddell lives in the UK with her family and two cats. She spends most of her time writing or reading and loves anything paranormal. Mia always had a love of writing but never reading. She was more interested in sports and hated sitting still - despite getting three poems published before the age of sixteen. Finally though, she found some novels that captured her interest and developed a love of reading which is now one of her favourite hobbies.

Mia began with poems before moving on to short stories. Although she enjoyed this, Mia found she had too much to tell with too little space, so later on she created her first series 'The Wanderer Trilogy' and from there other ideas have emerged. With a total of nine books planned at this moment, she is busy working on her second series 'Elemental Killers' before moving onto the next idea on her ever growing list.

***Excerpt***

Happy with the amount of photos I had collected I started to head back out of the forest, still flicking through my shots. As well as close ups, I had taken a few landscapes and as I was almost at the edge of the forest I noticed something in one of the photographs that made me stop.
In the left hand corner was a figure that looked mostly human, but was blurred as if they were moving on the spot.
A cold shudder shot through me.
Looking over my shoulder I became slightly panicked and felt as if someone was following me.
My eyes flicked and searched the shadows. Even though there was no sign that anything had ever been behind me, the forest looked different now - dark and threatening.
Instinctively I broke away and ran, still clutching the camera that was displaying the freaky image. Surrounded by trees I didn’t stop until I was free of the forest and back in the open light and sight of my house.
Throwing open my door, I slumped against the inside of it, regaining my breath from the short sprint. Once I had recovered I looked down at the photo once more, just to make sure that I hadn’t been seeing things. The old saying “the camera never lies,” came into my mind and for the first time I wished it not to be true. Sure enough though, as I looked down at the screen, the figure was still there and this time I noticed a red and orange glow around where its feet should have been. The image almost looked like the person was on fire but I thought I would have surely noticed if there had been a burning man in front of me.

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

Grab your current read
Open to a random page
Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)

"I realized that I was licking my fingers, and that I'd dipped them in the steak juice. A minute ago, I'd felt the warmth of a stuffy and un-air-conditioned apartment on a June evening, but now everything felt cool and comfortable.

I'm mostly human. But that leaves me a little vampire."

Goodreads Summary:

Reality Bites

Fortitude Scott’s life is a mess. A degree in film theory has left him with zero marketable skills, his job revolves around pouring coffee, his roommate hasn’t paid rent in four months, and he’s also a vampire. Well, sort of. He’s still mostly human.

But when a new vampire comes into his family’s territory and young girls start going missing, Fort can’t ignore his heritage anymore. His mother and his older, stronger siblings think he’s crazy for wanting to get involved. So it’s up to Fort to take action, with the assistance of Suzume Hollis, a dangerous and sexy shape-shifter. Fort is determined to find a way to outsmart the deadly vamp, even if he isn’t quite sure how.

But without having matured into full vampirehood and with Suzume ready to split if things get too risky, Fort’s rescue mission might just kill him.…

Blog Tour Character Spotlight: Quantum Entanglement by Liesel K. Hill

Quantum Entanglement Character Spotlight: Jonah

I have a special post for you today as well as a giveaway. I would like to thank Liesel so much for joining us today!

Summary
Five months after traveling to a post-apocalyptic future where collectives reign supreme and individuals have been hunted to the verge of extinction, Maggie Harper was returned to her own time until the threat to her life could be neutralized. She thought Marcus and the others would return for her within a few weeks, and now she’s beginning to worry.

When travelers from the future finally show up to collect her, it’s not who she expected. With the return of her memories, she wants more than ever to see Marcus again, but a snake-like woman whose abilities are a perfect match for Maggie’s, an injured Traveler, and decades of civil unrest to wade through all stand in the way of their reunion.

Meanwhile, Marcus and Karl traipse through the countryside, trying to neutralize Colin, who’s promised to brutalize and murder Maggie if he can get his hands on her. When a collective woman is left for dead, Marcus heals her, hoping she’ll be the key to killing Colin and bringing Maggie back. But she may prove as much a hindrance as a help.

The team struggles to get their bearings, but things happen faster than they know. The collectives are coalescing, power is shifting, and the one called B is putting sinister plans into action. If the team can’t reunite and get a handle on the situation, their freedom and individuality—perhaps their very identity—will be ripped away before they can catch their breath.

Character Spotlight

Hello Everyone! I’m so glad to be here. Thanks so much to Jaclyn for having me here. Today I’d like to do a spotlight for a character in my newest novel, Quantum Entanglement.

Character Name: Jonah Harper

Relationship to the MC: He’s Maggie’s brother.

Where we’ve seen him before: In book 1, Persistence of Vision, we learned that he was with Maggie in Vegas and experienced the time loss incident with her. Later, when Maggie figures out the reason for the time loss, we learn something else disturbing about Jonah: that he wasn’t where the team left him. In the time Maggie was gone (chronologically it was less than an hour) someone took the unconscious Jonah from where he was and put him in a strange hotel room. That movement and loss of time has still not been accounted for.

What his role in this installment is: In book 2, Quantum Entanglement, he plays a much bigger role in the story. The collective uses him to try and get to Maggie. Because of that, he gets swept up in the adventure, and learns of Interchron, the collectives, and the post-apocalyptic future.

What we learn about him: We see that he and Maggie are very close; he’s an extremely overprotective big brother. We are also told that he has neurochemical abilities, though of course they’ve never been brought forth. What they actually are remains a point of intrigue. *waggles eyebrows* Finally, we learn that collective villains like Colin and Justine know who he is, but why and to what extent are unclear.

What to expect in Jonah’s future: Expect that missing time to come into play in a big way in book 3 (release date 2014). Jonah will come to be a major part of the rebellion against the collectives, and build profound relationships with the team and other members of Interchron. In short, he’s not going anywhere.

Does Jonah sound like a character you might want to get to know? If so, check out Quantum Entanglement (Interchron) . Keep in mind that it’s on sale for $0.99 for a limited time, so snap it up before the price rises. Interchron is waiting.

Thanks so much for having me here! I can’t wait to hear what you all think about Jonah and all of his friends at Interchron.

Sidekick Showcase [42] - Love Interest's BFF

Sidekick Showcase, previously known as Sidekick Saturday, is a weekly bookish meme, hosted here by Jaclyn at JC's Book Haven. There are many secondary characters that are as great as the primaries. This week is Love Interest's BFF

My choice is Spade - Bone's BFF
Night Huntress Series by Jeaniene Frost

You have to really admire the guy that stands beside his best friend no matter how intimidating the heroine of the story is. I give props to Spade because he is 100% loyal to Bones throughout the series no matter what. I really love the way that I was introduced to Spade in the beginning. If you haven't read this series yet, you will really enjoy that scene in the woods. It was something special. Spade is always around when there is trouble, helping out, lending a hand - but the hand does have to be Bone's and not Cat's.

Quotes:

“Kitten, this is my best mate, Charles, but you can call him Spade. Charles, this is Cat, the woman I’ve been telling you about. You can see for yourself that everything I’ve said is…an understatement.”

“Bones, what is everyone doing in here? Spade, cover up. Frigging vampires think everyone wants to see what they've got."

“You're shagging a woman who can turn into a dragon? Blast you, Charles, I am sick with envy!”

Harry Potter Moment [9]

This is a meme hosted by Uncorked Thoughts. The aim of this meme is to share with fellow bloggers a character, spell, chapter, object or quote from the books/ films/ J. K. Favorite Book in the Series:

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

This one was hard for me because I almost chose the first one for kicking off the madness of my love for this series, but with the way that I devoured this book in one evening after it came out, this one had to be my choice. There were no punches pulled. Neville goes from geek to a hero. The ending happened after a huge climatic battle and it was fantastic. It evoked more emotion out of me than any of the other books so far. I enjoyed every word on every page.

What about you? What was your favorite book in the series and why?

Waiting on Wednesday [25] - A Cover

This week is Blogger's Choice

My choice is PROFESSOR Snape
Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling

Snape Picture Created by Jaclyn Canada

Yes, some of my absolute favorite characters come from the Harry Potter series. The reason I'm choosing Snape for Blogger's Choice is because he's an exceptional character that really needs to be recognized. The problem here is that only the people that know the series can really understand why he's such a remarkable character, and I'm not going to spoil him for anyone. He and Harry absolutely do not get along. He is a miserable and surly seeming person and often very unfair to Harry and Ron. He's great with magic and trusted by Dumbledore, often which is questioned by other characters in the series. The way Rowling writes Snape is completely inspired and I adore him.

I have a lot of blogs to visit and comments to reply to. Sorry that I am behind! I will make up for it all on Saturday to catch up some :D

Quotes:

"I can teach you how to bottle fame, brew glory, even put a stopper in death."

"POTTER!!!!"

“The mind is a complex and many-layered thing, Potter ... or at least, most minds are...”

"Wanted to arrive with a bang, did we, boys?"

“Mr. Moony presents his compliments to Professor Snape, and begs him to keep his abnormally large nose out of other people's business.
Mr. Prongs agrees with Mr. Moony, and would like to add that Professor Snape is an ugly git.
Mr. Padfoot would like to register his astonishment that an idiot like that ever became a professor.
Mr. Wormtail bids Professor Snape good day, and advises him to wash his hair, the slimeball.”

"Tut, Tut! Fame clearly isn't everything."

“Hang on . . .” Harry muttered to Ron. “There’s an empty chair at the staff table. . . . Where’s Snape?”
"Maybe he's ill!" said Ron hopefully.
“Maybe he’s left,” said Harry, “because he missed out on the Defense Against the Dark Arts job again!”
“Or he might have been sacked!” said Ron enthusiastically. “I mean, everyone hates him —”
“Or maybe,” said a very cold voice right behind them, “he’s waiting to hear why you two didn’t arrive on the school train.”
Harry spun around. There, his black robes rippling in a cold breeze, stood Severus Snape.”

Rowling herself or anything Potter related! She is picking a topic within HP for us to focus on each week and then if anyone wants to take part feel free! All she asks is to link back to her blog :). There is now a full list of the topics to come here.

Favorite Character:

Luna Lovegood

Man, I soooooo wish that I had time to do a picture because Luna is the absolute perfect person for me to have such a fun time drawing. Especially with that lion hat ROARING on her head. This girl is so funny. I laughed at her quirkiness, I cried a little at the part in the story where Harry saw their names with 'friends' written around her room, and I cheered for her when she kicked some butt. I don't think I've ever wanted good things to happen for a character as much as I want Luna to have the fantastic life she deserves. Is that weird? Maybe I love her so much because I've always been weird and embraced it. When I was in Middle School, I won 'Most Likely to Succeed' and in the yearbook picture I had a huge smiley face painted on my cheek. It's name was Giggles. To be fair, I was dressed appropriately the day before, but the teacher 'didn't have film in the camera'. Really, she just didn't like me and thought she had found a way to embarrass me. I wasn't fazed. But back to Luna, my absolute favorite part was when she commentated the Quidditch game.

Quotes:

“You can laugh! But people used to believe there were no such things as the Blibbering Humdinger or the Crumple-Horned Snorkack!”

“I think I'll just go down and have some pudding and wait for it all to turn up - it always does in the end.”

“Oh no, I'd love to go with you as friends!" said Luna, beaming as he had never seen her beam before. "Nobody's ever asked me to a party before, as a friend! Is that why you dyed your eyebrow, for the party? Should I do mine, too?”

"Oh … well …" she shrugged. "I think they think I'm a bit odd, you know. Some people call me 'Loony' Lovegood, actually."

Quidditch Commentary

"And that's Smith of Hufflepuff with the Quaffle," said a dreamy voice, echoing over the grounds. "He did the commentary last time, of course, and Ginny Weasley flew into him, I think probably on purpose, it looked like it. Smith was being quite rude about Gryffindor, I expect he regrets that now he's playing them? Oh, look, he's lost the Quaffle, Ginny took it from him, I do like her, she's very nice. ..."

Harry stared down at the commentator's podium. Surely nobody in their right mind would have let Luna Lovegood commentate? But even from above there was no mistaking that long, dirty-blonde hair, nor the necklace of butterbeer corks. . . . Beside Luna, Professor McGonagall was looking
slightly uncomfortable, as though she was indeed having second thoughts about this appointment.

". . . but now that big Hufflepuff player's got the Quaffle from , her, I can't remember his name, it's something like Bibble? no, Buggins?"

"It's Cadwallader!" said Professor McGonagall loudly from beside Luna. The crowd laughed.

"She didn't even consider leaving you there, Sa'han, but instead lost a portion of her freedom in buying your own. Such a mind will not be swayed by lures of money, power, or status. She's ruled by her emotions, which is not a bad thing if you can successfully show her your goals are the same as hers. I still believe that Morgan is a good risk." - Quen

Sunday Cover Scramble [33]

Let's have some fun! I am going to post covers on here every Sunday that are scrambled up graphically, making it hard to tell what cover it is. I would like your guesses on what cover you think I've posted. I won't answer you until the next day to let you know if you are right, allowing other to guess as well. Some will be hard, and others may be easy. If you need hints, I will only post covers of series talked about on my blog previously. Also, let me know in the comments if you'd like some more hints and I'll offer some more throughout the day if no one guesses it correctly. Here we go:

Sidekick Showcase [40] - Spitfire

This week is Spitfire

My choice is Dani (MEGA) O'Malley
The Fever Series by Karen Marie Moning

Dani O'Malley Picture Created by Jaclyn Canada

Dani is the biggest spitfire I think that I've ever come across in a series. She is young at just 14 I believe when the series starts, she is extremely fast, has precognition, and will kill in a heartbeat. Not only that, but she has the foulest mouth I've seen on a character in a while and being such a young girl that's pretty wild. However, she is bad to the bone and will have your back if you've broken down her walls and actually gained her trust. I especially enjoyed her crush on Barrons and V'Lane.

The quotes are all from Iced which she is now the main character in, and I haven't actually read. I don't have my books with me right now, and that's all I could get.

Quotes:

“Ryodan doesn’t like Mac. He never has. She got between him and his best boy-bud. I give him a look. “I’ll tell you a secret, Ryodan. You mess with her, Barrons’ll kill you.” I drag a finger across my neck. “Just like that. You aren’t all that. Barrons’ll stomp your ass, hand’s down.”

“You’ll never be just anything. A tsunami can never be ‘just’ a wave.”
“Get off my chin.”
“I like that about you. Waves are banal. Tsunamis reshape the Earth. Under the right circumstances, even entire civilizations.”
I blink.
“You’re going to be one hell of a woman one day, Dani.”

“Life's a choice: you can live in black and white, or you can live in colour. I'll take every shade of the rainbow and the gazillion in between!”

Cover Reveal: Redemption Red by Delancey Stewart

I'm excited to bring to you the cover reveal of Redemption Red by Delancey Stewart! This book is scheduled to be released October 15th, 2013.

Redemption Red by Delancey Stewart (A Wine Country Romance)

Love, loss, and a smoky red…

When Audrey Montgomery’s carefully planned life collides with the self-destructive path Tyson Dawes is on, neither of them can predict what will happen next.

Audrey is a diligent and self-reliant culinary student at Portland’s prestigious Cordon Bleu. She has a clear picture of her future in mind, and it allows little room for the steely-eyed and tormented young man she bumps into by chance while wine tasting with friends.

Tyson Dawes had a perfect childhood, raised among the vines in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. But even the most idyllic of upbringings couldn’t have prepared him for what he would face as a Marine. He returns to his childhood home angry and haunted by the storms of what he has faced and by those he has lost.
Do opposites truly attract? Can the lure of Audrey’s apparent clarity and innocence offer Tyson hope in the face of his emptiness?

This is the second book in the Wine Country Romance Series. The first book, A Rare Vintage was published in June and is available on Amazon.

While Redemption Red is part of the Wine Country Romance Series, it is a stand alone. These books can each be read individually.
